The Office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Meluri, organized an awareness programme on “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan: Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan” at the Village Council Hall, Meluri on 17th June 2026. The programme aimed to create awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco and drug abuse and to encourage community participation in building a drug-free society.
Deputy Commissioner, Meluri, Phuleshe K. Yepthomi, NCS highlighted the importance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and stressed the need for collective efforts to make society drug-free. He stated that human resources are the most valuable asset of the nation, and drug abuse weakens the productivity, health, and potential of individuals, especially the youth. He urged all sections of society to work together in protecting and developing human resources through awareness, education, and a drug-free environment for sustainable growth and development.
He informed that if we want to develop our society, we must first address the problem of drug abuse. When even one family is affected by drugs, it impacts not only that family but also the entire community. Drug abuse destroys health, education, livelihoods, and the future of our youth. 
The DC appealed to the parents and community leaders to work together to create awareness and guide young people towards a healthy and productive life. A drug-free family leads to a stronger society, and a stronger society leads to a developed nation, he stated. 
SDPO Meluri, Dr. T. Desela Sangtam, delivered on "Drug Abuse and Crime". She highlighted that substance abuse often leads individuals, especially the youths into unlawful activities, affecting families and society. She stressed the importance of awareness, prevention and Community cooperation in combating the menace of drugs. She also urged parents, teachers, village leaders, and youth organizations to work together to create a safe, healthy, and drug-free society. She warned that those involved in drug-related offences would face legal action as per the law.
Dr. Ngailong L. Phom, CHC Meluri, spoke on "Tobacco Use Abuse". He highlighted the harmful effects of tobacco use and abuse on health. He urged the public, especially the youth to avoid tobacco products and adopt healthy lifestyles. He also emphasized the importance of awareness, prevention, and community support in reducing tobacco addiction and promoting a healthier society.
Wuthovi Nyuthe, Pastor Meluri Village Baptist Church, invoked God's blessings for the programme, while Vijirho Nyuthe, Supervisor delivered a vote of thanks. The programme was chaired by Thorhosie Kajiri, CDPO Meluri.
