The Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Nagaland, has issued a circular making it mandatory for buildings seeking No Objection Certificates (NOC) to provide dedicated water storage tanks made of concrete, masonry or steel, for fire-fighting purposes.

According to the circular dated 15th October 2026, the provision regarding water storage capacity for fire-fighting and life-safety requirements, specifically where Sintex or plastic water storage tanks are used, is no longer applicable to existing buildings seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Fire & Emergency Services. This change takes effect immediately.

The circular further stated that wherever dedicated water storage tanks are provided using plastic/ Sintex tanks, these shall be replaced with concrete, masonry or steel tanks, conforming to the applicable water storage capacity requirements as prescribed by the Inspection Officers.

Officers-in-Charge (OCs) have been directed not to forward cases for NOC unless the required water storage provisions are made using concrete, masonry or steel tanks.

The circular shall come into force with immediate effect from the date of notification.
