Nagaland Police has been aggressively taking proactive steps in the war against drugs to tackle the menace of drug abuse and drug trafficking. In the past one year, a total of 217 cases have been registered and 309 persons arrested so far. The total collective seizure made by the respective District Police and Narcotics Cell, PHQ in the last one year of various types of Drugs and Psychotropic substances are listed in tabular form given below:

The State Police under the dynamic leadership of DGP Nagaland, T. John Longkumer, IPS has been relentlessly and aggressively carrying out its enforcement duties to curb the menace of drugs and contraband goods from the society and for the well being of our younger generation.
Nagaland is basically a transit route for smuggling of Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic substances couried by drug peddlers. Most of the Opioid drugs come via Manipur to Nagaland and exit to Assam through Dimapur. In this regard, Nagaland Police has been intensifying it efforts to track the backward and forward linkages too.
Nagaland Police through the PRO has stated that Anti - Drug drives have been conducted in all the districts on the following agenda:
1. Drug Enforcement activities as well as pre-emptive actions
2. Activities to target absconding Drug Traffickers and Bailees not attending court
3. Disposal of drugs and vehicles seized
4. Drug seizures by Intelligence collection and Naka Checkings
5. Identification and destruction of illicit cultivation of narcotics crops
6. Check on trafficking of Pharma drugs
7. Awareness initiatives on drug abuse to the public
Further, to improve efficiency, Nagaland Police have also initiated Capacity Building measures especially in use of IT systems both in Human Resources and Technological Support Systems to aid the police personnel in detection of drugs.
Nagaland Police has reiterated that any person indulging in drug abuse/drug trafficking will be sternly dealt with, as per provisions under the Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act
