The district-level launch of the National Immunization Day (NID) was held at the District Hospital, Dimapur, on 28th June, 2026, to kick-start the nationwide Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign aimed at protecting children from poliovirus.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by District immunization officer District Hospital Dimapur, Dr. Anungla Longkumer, who highlighted that although India has remained polio-free for over a decade, the poliovirus continues to exist in some parts of the world. She stated that the Pulse Polio programme is being continued to strengthen immunity among children and raise awareness about poliomyelitis, thereby ensuring that the country maintains its polio-free status.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by EAC, Dimapur, Imlijungla Lemtur, who administered the first oral polio drops to a child, marking the official launch of the district-wide immunization drive.

Observed as Polio Day, the campaign is being conducted across all districts with the objective of administering oral polio vaccine to every child below five years of age, irrespective of their previous immunization status. This year's drive is being carried out under the theme, " Let the Victory over Polio Continue with Two Drops of Life".

Health officials appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that all eligible children receive the life-saving vaccine, emphasizing that sustained community participation is vital to preventing the re-emergence of poliomyelitis and safeguarding India's hard-earned polio-free status.

The immunization drive commenced at 8:30 a.m. at the District Hospital, Dimapur, in the presence of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), healthcare workers and district officials. Similar vaccination activities are being conducted at designated booths and outreach centres across the district to ensure maximum coverage of all eligible children.
